Trailer Fire in Waterfront Campground

May 09, 2009 

Co. 8 1st (due), Co.11 2nd (due) received call for a fire in the campground off Yacht Club Rd. Smith Mt. Fire Boat 11-8 arrived to find fully involved trailer and went into attack mode with deck gun off the boat. Bedford Communication upgraded this to a full response working structure fire. This added Co-10 (Saunders) 3rd due and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT. Command 8 arrived and set up command and only needing Attack 8 w/5 and W-8 w/ 6 and everyone else to walk in due to the size of the road into the campground. W-82 crew walked in with Co.10 and Co.1 all crews worked together for about 1.5 on overhaul.

2 Firefighters turn into painters

FF Hultay and Chief Calhoun was bored on Saturday and decided to paint a 8'+8'  logo on the wall of the engine bay. We finished up the logo today after about 15 hrs and will start our 50 year patch this week.

Co. 5 (Forest), Sq.6 (Goode) and SOC (Special Command Operation) was dispatched to the Budget Inn on 460. P-5 w/ (Capt. Eggleston) arrived to find that vehicle had struck the building and went into one of the rooms. Tac-1 w/ Soc 8 arrived and started building T-shores. R-5, R-8 and R-1 went to work on finishing the T- Shores. The Soc team built 2 T-shores and then placed plastic over the room due to the rain.

Co. 1 (Bedford), SOC (Special Operation Command) was dispatched to 460 West of Bedford for a  truck in a building with power pole and lines down. E-1 w/ Asst. Chief 1 (Stevens) arrived to find one truck that was into the building with no entrapment.  R-8 w/4 help build 2 T-shores on the A/B side. Units working R-8, Tac-1, SOC 8, Tac-2, U-5, E-1, R-1and U-1

MVC on Joppa Mill Rd.

Co. 8 and Sq. 8 was dispatched to the area of Joppa mill and Dickerson Mill Rd. for a MVC. Lt. 8 (Ritchey) arrived while riding on Sq.8 bus. He advised that there was one car in the middle of the road at the intersection of Joppa Mill Rd. and Flint Hill, with damage to the left front.  FF (Cook) arrived and took command and called W-83 to tell them that they will need to do a door pop on there arrival.  Patient was extricated then  transported to B.C.M. Hospital.  The car was moved to the side of the road and all Co.8 cleared. Units responding W-83, R-8,C-8 and C-82

 The crew that stayed at St.8 last night awoke to find 7 " of snow and decided to build a snow fire man in front of St.8. Then place Chief 8 leather helmet on top. During the build, a snow ball fight broke out and FF George missed and broke the window in the garage door . There will be a payment plan for you FF George.  Then the crew went to the back of lot and went sleigh riding for about 1.5 hrs.  Thank for all that stayed at St. 8.

Co. 10 (Saunders) 1st due, Co.7 (Huddleston) 2nd due and Co. 1(Bedford) RIT was called to responded off Smith Mt. Parkway for a possible structure fire. Asst. Chief 10 (Nelson) also called out Co. 8 for more manpower. R-8 w/6, W-82 w/ 2, W-83 w/ 2, U-8 w/ 2 and C-8 w/ Chief. E-10 arrived with Asst Chief 10 (Nelson) to find fire and smoke coming from the C/D corner and the crew pulled a 1.75 attack line to the structure. R-8 crew assisted with E-10 crew in the basement. C-8 was placed in the yard for a command post.  Crews  from all company worked together for about 5 hrs.

Co. 8 with Co. 7 (Huddleston) 2nd due and Co. 1 (Bedford) RIT was dispatched for a possible structure fire off Moneta Rd. with fire in the kitchen area. C-8 (1),W-8 (6),W82 (3)and W-83 (6) responded.   C-8 w/Chief Calhoun arrived with nothing showing outside but went inside to find heavy smoke in the kitchen. Homeowner was cooking and forgot about the food and after an 1.5 hrs  she hear the smoke alarms and called 911 then put the pot of food over in the sink.  W-8 arrived after C-8 and placed half the crew inside and the rest placed PPV fan at the front door to remove the smoke.

 

   
 

Brush fire with Co. 13

Co. 13 (Stewartville) was dispatched to the area of Goodview Rd. and Thomas Mill Rd. Dep. Chief 13 (Dooley) arrived to find fire on the side of the road and was rapidly moving to a wooded area and open field. DC 13 advised Bedford Communication to punch out Co. 8 for Brush 8. Chief 8 (Calhoun) and two FF responded in B-8. Command also requested manpower so Co. 8 filled Utility 8 and Brush 82. B-8 arrived and helped with the right flank in extinguishing the rapid moving fire. B-82 went to the top right flank with B-13. Fire was extinguish with in an hour.        Unit working B-8, B-82, B-13, B-13A, T-13, U-8, C-8 and C-13

Co. 8 with Co. 7 (Huddleston) 2nd due and Co. 1 (Bedford) RIT was dispatched for report of a structure fully involved on Chestnut Fork Rd.  W-82 arrived to find a 2 story structure fully involved and was going to be in an defensives attack mode.  R-1 (Bedford) was 2 truck  on scene with Chief 1 (Creasy) .  Command 8 w/ Chief Calhoun arrived and left Chief 1 (Creasy) in command and  went to work with the crew of W-82 and R-1. Command had  E-7A , T-8, W-8 and P-7 on water supply from a local dry hydrant. W-82 flowed 1- 2.5 and 2- 1.75 attack lines. All brothers from  Co. 8, Co.7 and Co.1 work together about 3.5 hrs .

Co.8 was dispatched to Diamond Hill Rd. for a brush fire. FF 822 (Dooley) arrived on A-8 from St.3 to find heavy fire and smoke in the area. Dooley then requested Co.13 (Stewartville) for manpower and a Engine company. Command 8 arrived and assumed the command. With the size of the fire command called in the Dept. of Forestry's dozer. W-13 was then was placed at a pile of truck tires that was on fire and also protecting a structure. After about 5 hours units cleared.

Sat, January 31,2009 

Bedford communications alerted Co. 8 to Arerys Rd. for a chimney fire. W-8  w/ 6 arrived onscence to find heavy smoke coming from the sides of the chimney.  The home owner with his garden hose was  spraying the chimney and the side of the house. Wagon 8 crew laddered the A side and 2 FF went to the attic with TIC to check for extinction. W-83, R-8 crews assisted with the roof division to clean the chimney.  Units operating on scene W-8,W-82, W-83 and R-8

At 01:01 hours Bedford communications alerted Companies 13 1st due, Co.8 (Moneta) 2nd due and Co.1(Bedford) as RIT to Stewartsville Road for a reported house fire. E-13 (with 3) was the first to arrive to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the "C" side of the structure and fire venting through the roof.W-8 w/ 5 arrived and split the crew per command while W-8 hauled water and the crew of 4 off W-8 helped E-13 crew

Shortly after clearing from a lengthy structure fire, at 01:50 hours Bedford Communications alerted Co.8(Moneta)1st due and Co.13, 2nd due and RIT to Joppa Mill Road for report of a possible structure fire. 810 (Mayhew) was first to arrive to find a light smoke condition and assumed the command. Command shortly advised all responding units this was a single engine response due to this being a furnace malfunction. E-13's crew and Wagon 8 investigated the furnace and checked for fire extension using the thermal camera before clearing. Units operated on scene for 15 minutes. Units operating:  W-8, E-13, T-13 and W-13      
 
   
 

Special call for Rescue 8

Jan. 25 , 2009 Sunday  

Co.8 was called along with Co.1 (Bedford) to Co. 19  (Shady  Grove) 1st due for manpower for a structure fire, 3 hrs after the first truck arrived. Rescue 8 w/6 arrived  with  Rescue 1 w/6 and both crews worked for about 2 hrs and was returned to  service by County 1. (Chief Jones)
