Stand by for Co. 13  R- 8 and W- 13 run MVC (driver dies at the hospital) and Brush Fire          

12-08-07 Standby at Co13 (Stewartsville) has Rescue 8 and Wagon 13 with two calls. Co 13, Co 8, Co 12 was dispatch for MVC with full entrapment of driver.     W-13 w/3, R-8 w/4 responds from Christmas Dinner with Co 13 in Vinton. Chief 8 on the seat of W-13 was advised that there was one fully trapped with legs and chest and labored breathing. Life Guard 10 was called to land at near by church where Chief 12 and Co 12 set up that landing zone. W-13 arrived on Stewartsville Rd.  with R-8.  At this time, R-8 and W-13 set up to do extraction on the driver.  W-13’s crew pulled 1 ¾ attack line off the front bumper.  W-13 and R-8 officers went to the truck to see what the plan of attack would be. After talking to EMS from Sq 4 the patient was not trapped. So EMS worked on a rapid X of the driver.  W-8 assumed command of the MVC.  During all of this, Co 13, Co 8, Co 12 and Co 19  was dispatched for a large fire off of Nemo Rd.  W-13 cleared MVC to run the large fire off Nemo Rd. Assisted by B-13, B-19, B-83, T-19, P-19,R-8 to only find a small brush fire monitored by the home owner.

Slippery Situation in Moneta

12/07/07  Freezing rain and cold conditions made Bedford County roads very hazardous. Other Companies had already been out on wreaks. About 7:30 calls started to come in to dispatch for Co 8. The first on was on Moneta Rd / Scott Store Rd w/1 vehicle and 2 Pt. was transported to BMH. Capt Rainville was heading to work when she ran up on 1 SUV on its side and multiple vehicles off the road on Moneta Rd / Rockcliff Rd.  As FF Hultay was headed to the first call, he came upon what he described as "a parking lot" on White House Rd (no injuries).

   

SPECIAL OPERATIONS RESPONSE in Co. 2 First Due

12/6/07  Special Operations Command responded to a MVC with a semi truck over a 100 ft embankment in Co. 2 (Big Islands) first due. Command 8 (SOC Calhoun) responding. Pumper 2 arrived with Lt.Cox (Co 2)with command. SOC 2 (Task Force Leader Coleman) arrived and was assigned Operations Chief. Rescue 1 and SOC team members set up a hauling system to lower the stokes basket. SOC Leader Musgrove (Co 1) went down to the accident site to help with rigging the Pt. SOC team on the haul line to raise PI. from over the embankment. Pt. was transported to Med-Flight III.

Accident on Moneta Rd with possible Entrapment

11-26-07 Co 8, Sq 8, M 14-8 dispatched for a T-Bone with possible entrapment on Moneta Rd. Wagon 8- Rescue 8- Wagon 82 enroute. FF Martin arrived on scene to find 2 cars, 2 PI /1 child still in the car ,830 has the Command. Chief 8 arrived in Rescue 8  assuming the Command. Wagon 8 crew assisted Squad with removal of 2 adults and 1 child. Rescue's crew worked traffic control. 3 PI transported.

 

   

Structure Fire on Wilson Church Rd.

11-23-07 Moneta , Huddleston (2nd due) , Bedford (RIT) were dispatched to 1967 Wilson Church Road for a reported refrigerator on fire inside of the house. Chief 7 arrived to find the house fully involved. With the quick response of Engine 1 , they pulled a 2 1/2 to the structure to knock down   the heavy fire. Wagon 82 and Rescue 8 crew assisted with the attack on the fire along side with Company 1 & Company 7. Our thoughts and prayer go out to Lt. 8 Mayhew that was injured and we wish him a speedy recovery.

   

Accident on Stoney Fork Rd with Entrapment

11-23-07  Moneta was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident with possible entrapment. Wagon 8 and Rescue 8 enroute, Chief 8 on the Rescue asked Bedford Commutations to get Co 13 (Stewartsville) for assistance on this call. Wagon 8 arrived to find one car off the road with heavy damage to the front, side  and top. Rescue 8 arrived took  command and stared extraction. Wagon 8 crew help Rescue 8 crew pop the rear and front driver side to get 1 P.I.out for Sqaud 8.  Engine 13 (Stewartsville) crew help with command, Wagon 13 (Stewartsville) was staged at the High School.Thank you Co 13  for the help.

     

   

Hot Air Balloon has gone down in Moneta  

11-11-07  Moneta was dispatched for a hot air balloon that had gone down in the area of Horsebend Rd. /Savannah Hills Dr.  Wagon 8 (3) Rescue 8 (3) Brush 8 (1) Command (1) was responding, Lt. Mayhew arrived and  found one hot air balloon on the ground with several people walking around.  Lt. Mayhew advised Chief 8 that the balloon had landed safely with no injuries.

"Smoke Detectors Save lives"

9-09-07 Rescue 8 with 5 went to Morgan's Baptist in Moneta for Fun Day and to teach the community on what to do if the house is on fire and smoke condition in the home, and what to do in severe weather conditions.  Non toxic smoke is used to simulate smoke condition in the home so the children and adults can learn how to get on the floor and crawl (NOT STAND) to an exit. There is also an escape ladder on the rear to help train children and adults to get out of the windows. This Safety Trailer will be utilized through the county and at schools  to help teach fire safety, home and kitchen safety , and severe weather. Engine 8 Run's it last Call

9-08-07 Engine 8 run's it last call to a Gas smell in W-83 run area. Engine 8 (247) has helped the Community and County for more than 18 years. It will be replace by a 2006 Crimson Rescue Pumper. Thanks to the members for the good times we had with Engine 8.

Head on with one overturned

8-23-07 Received call for MVA on Rockcliff Rd. Wagon 8 with 6 arrived to find one car upside down in the ditch and one with heavy front end damage FF 820 (Washington) with the Command. Command had 4 PI's transported to local hosp.and two PI's that refused treatment.

Raising the ROOF @ St. 82

8-19-07 Moneta Fire is raising the roof on St. 82 so the new Wagon 82 can go into service. Thanks to all the local business and local contractors for the help to raise the roof. We have removed the old trusses placed them on the ground beside the station, the contractor will build 4' tall wall out of wood and place them on top of block wall . This will take the station  from a 10' tall  to a 14' tall, with (2) 12+12 doors.

Motor Vehicle Accident in Huddleston with Entrapment

8-05-07   Co. 8  was dispatched per Chief 10 to assist Company 10 with a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Smith Mountain Lake Parkway.  At 1705hrs, Wagon 8 responded with 3.  Upon arrival Wagon 8 crew stabilized the vehicle and assisted with extricating the patient. Wagon 8 cleared the scene at 1804hrs and returned to service.

Fatal Accident on Stewartville Road

8-02-07   Co. 8  was dispatched for a head on MVA with entrapment. M-86 was first on scene to find 2 unconscious , 1 still alive in rear of car and 2 walking around. Wagon 8 with 5 arrived, Chief 8 with Command. W-8 crew extricated 1 female from the rear seat of car, then was transported to Life Guard 10.The passengers in the Van was patient refusals. Command had E-8 ,B-8, B-83 and U-8 at Landing Zone at near by School.

7-19-07  Co 1 (Bedford) , Co 8 2nd due  and Co 5 (Forest) RIT received call       for  possible structure fire. Wagon 1 with4 arrived to find heavy fire on rear  of structure Wagon 1 passing command to next in Engine.  Asst. Chief 1 (Crumpacker) has Command of Blue Ridge Av. Engine 1 assignment  to catch hydrant supply  W- 1 with 5" LDH. Command 8 (Chief Calhoun)  arrived  with assignment to go to upstairs with 2 Co. 1 firefighters  to search for extension. Wagon 8 crew of 6 arrived and was assigned to back up crew. Engine 8 was returned to service. Co 8 returned to service at 00:20.

                    Lighting Strike on structure

6-25-07   Dispatched for lighting strike to house in Beachwood Shores. C0 10 (Saunders) 2nd  due , C0 1 (Bedford) RIT. Command 8 arrived to find nothing  showing form structure, Chief Calhoun in command. Wagon 8 with 6 arrived  and went on exterior search , found 3 places that were hit. Co 10 crew went inside and found no fire or smoke but did find burnt door handles at the entrance from garage .  Rescue 1 crew and Engine 10 crew assessed with operation  on scene .

Barn fire Isle Pines Dr

6-22-07   Co 8 was dispatched for possible barn fire, Co10           (Saunders) 2nd due ,Co 13 (Stewartville) RIT. Tanker 8 at the time on call was in the area on a service call. Asst Chief 10 was first to arrive to find 60 + 100 barn full of hay bales with fire showing on side of barn. Chief 8 (Calhoun) arrived taken Command. Wagon 8 with 5 arrived to assist  with T-8 manpower. Ladder 10 was placed on the hydrant for water supply. W-13 was sent to St 8 per Command to stand by for any Co 8 calls. Home owner help remove bales with his two tractors, lost about 30 bales from the fire.

Wagon 8

Wagon 8 runs two possible structure fires

6-08-07 Co 8 second due was dispatched for a possible structure fire in Co 1 (Bedford) first due. Wagon 8 with 5 and Command 8 with 2 responded to call on Smith Street. Command Chief 1 (Stevens) made it a can handle for Co1. W-8 and C-8 returning to St 8. Then, Co 13 (Stewartville) was dispatched for a possible structure fire. Wagon 8 and Command 8 responded. Chief 13 (Neil) with Command of Stewartville Rd. appointed Chief 8 (Calhoun) with operations. Wagon 8's crew went to work on over hauling and traffic control. The fire was contained to one room by (Alan Dooley Crew)

 
   

 

Tractor Trailer overturned on Moneta Rd.
 
 6-6-07 Co8 was dispatched for a truck overturned on Moneta Rd. in the area of Stoney Fork Rd. Wagon 8 arrived with five on board to find a tractor trailer overturned.  Wagon 8 with Command 8 shut down Moneta Rd.  Wagon 8’s crew went to the cab to find one PI. lying outside of cab. At this time, Command 8 (Chief Calhoun) advised Bedford Communications to get Life Guard 10 to this location and to tone out Co13 (Stewartsville) to help at the landing zone. Firefighter 846 (Cook) took command of the landing zone and landed LG 10 about ¼ mile south of accident scene.  Medic 8-4 and Wagon 8 crew assisted with packaging the PI.  The patient was transported to LG 10.  A hazmat team from Bedford County was called per Command for a diesel and oil spill. VDOT closed the intersections of Stoney Fork/Moneta Rd. and Moneta /Stewartville Rd. and detoured traffic until Woods Wrecker Service recovered truck.
