April 16th, 2011 - Easter Egg Hunt at Downtown Moneta - Company 8 stood by at Downtown Moneta for their annual Easter Egg Hunt. Despite the bad weather, over 200 kids went store to store collecting eggs. Moneta Fire handed out eggs and fire safety coloring books! A special thanks to the members who gave of their time to be there!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

March 23, 2011 - Fundraising at SRMS

Ms. Joanne Howard's classes demonstrated outstanding support of the
Moneta Fire during recent weeks. The classes held sales of Jolly
Ranchers benefiting the Fire Department with a donation of  $138.10.
On Wednesday March 23, 2011 President Jeff Pauley along with EMS Lt.  Mike Goyer and Chaplain K.C. Furr presented Ms. Howard with a certificated of appreciation for their contribution.

 

 

 

 

March 12, 2011 - Barn Fire on Mead Valley Road

At 12:47 Company 13, Company 8, and Company 1 as RIT were dispatched to 1833 Mead Valley Rd for a barn on fire. Units arrived to find a barn with approximately 200 round bales of hay on fire.  Crews worked with the assistance of the homeowner to remove the bales that were threatening the still standing workshop side of the barn and created a fire break around the bulk of the bales to prevent extension. After a lengthy overhaul of the area the bales were left burning with the landowner monitoring the scene and units returned to service at 1700.  Units on scene: C8, W8, W82, W83, B8, B82, T8, W13, T13, B13, W1

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 2011 Company 8 visited with Staunton River Middle School students during their lunch periods several times during the month of February. Members answered questions and allowed students to try on structural firefighting gear. A special thank you to school administration for allowing us this opportunity to interact with their students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 20, 2011 - Brush Fire on Big Bear Run

 

 

 

While operating on the Saunders Rd incident Moneta units were requested to respond to a second working brush fire in company 15's first due territory. Crews arrived to find an approximately 2 acre fire started by power lines. Units from Companies 8, 13 and 12 made a quick knockdown on the fire and after a lengthy mop up crews returned to service. Units on Scene B8, B83, W8, C8

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 20, 2011 - Brush Fire on Saunders Road

 

 

Company 13, 19 and the Wildland division were dispatched to a brush fire on Saunders Rd. After no response from 19 Moneta was added to the assignment. Crews arrived to find a fast moving brush fire approaching several residences and quickly moving up a steep hill. Crews from Companies 8, 13, 9 and 12 worked with the assistance of the Virginia Department of Forestry to contain the fire. As night approached the scene was left with the Department of Forestry who monitored the fire throughout the evening. The fire was started by children playing with fire and burnt around 30 acres. February 17, 2011 - LZ on Moneta Road

 

 

Company 8 was dispatched to Centra Health Cardiology in Moneta to set up an LZ for Lifeguard 10 after a successful CPR Save. Units shut down 122 and landed Lifeguard without incident. Units Responding W82, Moneta Rescue, Franklin County Medic 15 and the BCSO

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 14, 2011 - Brush Fire on Stewartsville Road

 

Company 8, Company 13, and the Wildland Division were dispatched  to Stewartsville Road for a brush fire. Just after companies were dispatched Company 8, Company 1, and the Wildland Division were dispatched the end of Mob Creek Road for a brush fire. Crews arrived on Stewartsville Road to find a tree on  the power line with approximately 1 acre burning. Brush 1 arrived on Mob Creek to find the homeowner was seeing the Stewartsville Road fire and diverted their resources to the scene on Stewartsville Road. Crews worked for several hours containing the fire and extinguishing hot spots.

February 8, 2011 - MVA on Moneta Road

 

 

Company 8 was dispatched to 122 in the area of Laker's Store for an MVC with fluids leaking and no injuries. Command 8 arrived to find the same with one driver slightly shook up but not injured. Crews from Wagon 82 and 83 controlled a fluid leak and traffic while EMS Firefighters obtained a patient refusal.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 6, 2011 - Overturned Vehicle

on Stony Fork Rd.

 

Company 8, Squad 8, 4, and Medic 14 were dispatched to Stony Fork Rd. for an MVA involving an overturned vehicle with unknown injuries. Command 8 arrived to find one vehicle on its side with a fluid leak and one subject needing EMS attention. Crews from Rescue 8 and Wagon 83 searched for a possible passenger after statements the driver made but found none. Crews controlled hazards and assisted the towing company with removing the vehicle.

 

 

 

 

 

 

February 3, 2011 - MVA on Goodview Road

Company 8 was alerted at 17:28 of an MVA on Goodview Road. Wagon 8-3 arrived to find two vehicles involved in a rear-end collision. After evaluation from rescue personnel on Rescue 8 it was determined there was no PI. Units controlled the hazards and worked traffic until accident accident was cleared. All units returned to service at 18:30. Units on scene: C8, C8-2, Rescue 8, Wagon 8-3. Members on scene:  11

 

 

 

February 1, 2011- MVA in Stewartsville First Due

At 08:03 Company 8 was dispatched to assist Co. 13 (Stewartsville-Chamblissburg) with a rollover motor vehicle crash with entrapment on Rt. 24 approximately 1 mile west of Goodview Rd. Wagon 83 with four personnel (2 BLS) and Utility 8 with two personnel responded. Upon arrival W83 deployed a hose line in support of the extrication efforts underway by Rescue 13, assisted by the personnel on Utility 8. The single occupant was extricated from the pick-up truck and transported to the hospital. Moneta units returned to service at 09:00.

 

 

 

January 31, 2011- Vehicle Into a Tree

 

At 19:36 Company 8 was called to Hendricks Store Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident. Command 8 arrived to find one van 15 feet off the road with heavy front end damage, no PI. At 20:17 Command was terminated and all units cleared the scene. Units on scene: Command 8, Wagon 83, Rescue 8. Number of members: 15.

 

January 15, 2011 - Annual Christmas Dinner

Company 8 gathered to honor the outstanding members of 2010. This years top award winners were Chris Wilson (825) honored as Firefighter of the Year and Jonathan Parker (843) as Most Improved Firefighter.
