December 6th, 2009 Wagon 8 and Rescue 8 headed to Big Island today for their annual Christmas Parade. Many Bedford County Fire and Rescue agencies were present for the parade and joined together following the parade for food and fellowship at the Big Island Fire Department. Rescue 8 brought home the third place trophy for specialty vehicles. Heavy Rains cause MVA on Moneta Road
November 12, 2009 Around 08:00 AM Company 8, Squad 8, Squad 7, RS 2, and Special Operations Command were dispatched to Moneta Road for a Motor Vehicle Accident in the area of Moneta Farm Supply with reports the car was hanging over an embankment. First arriving units found one vehicle off the road with moderate damage and no apparent injuries. Units on scene were: Wagon 8-3, Rescue 8, Utility 8, Command 8, Medic 14-8, Medic 8-5, and Virginia State Police.
October is Fire Safety Month!
October 14,2009 Throughout the month of October the Moneta Fire Safety Trailer has been visiting elementary schools in the county to teach fire safety. On Wednesday, October 14, 2009 the trailer visited Body Camp Elementary which is in Moneta's first due. Wagon 82 (staffed by R. Kirby, J. Burtner, P. Lewis, and J. Bailey) spoke with all grades about fire safety and assisted them through the trailer. Special thanks goes out to Bedford County Fire and Rescue (specifically Deputy Chief Lee Day, Firefighter/EMT Diana Rainville, and the staff of Medic 14-8) for assisting us with the demonstrations.
Crews Respond to Possible Chimney Fire
October 1, 2009 At approximately 9:10AM Company 8 was alerted to Halesford Road for a possible chimney fire. After the initial dispatch, Company 13, Squad 8, Medic 14-8, and RS2 was added to the alarm after the caller reported the house was filling with smoke. 849 and Wagon 8-3 arrived to find a two-story farm house with the fire contained to the chimney. Crews from 8 and 13 extinguished the fire and cleaned the chimney and stove. After finding no extension and advising the home owner to have the flu cleaned units went ready shortly after 11AM. August 10, 2009 Crews from Moneta, Saunders, Smith Mountain Lake, and Scruggs Fire Departments gathered at Water Wheel Marina to train on water supply for aerial devices. Units found out what it took to supply the ladder using fire boats, an engine relay pumping and an engine at draft. Crews learned valuable information dealing with water supply and also enjoyed the chance to work with companies that they do not always work with. There were over 70 persons in attendance at the training session. Thanks to everyone who participated, similar training will take place in the future!
Motor Vehicle Accident on Radford Church Road
August 9, 2009 Around 10:30AM Company 8 was dispatched to Radford Church Road for a single vehicle accident with injury. Three patients were transported by Squad 8. Units responding: Recue 8, Wagon 8-3, Command 8-2, Squad 8, VA State Police.
Road Tractor Fire on Chesnut Fork Road
August 6, 2009 Around 00:00 Company 8 was dispatched to Chestnut Fork Road, between Moneta Road and Rock Cliff Road. Brush 8 arrived to find one road tractor off the road heavily involved. Brush 8 protected against extension into the woods while Wagon 8-3 extinguished the fire. Units responding were: Brush 8, Wagon 8-2, Wagon 8-3, Bedford County Sherriff's Office and Virginia State Police.
Dudley Road Structure Fire
July 27,2009 At 1:03AM Company 8 First Due, Company 13 Second Due and RIT, Squad 8 and Squad 1 were dispatched to 1215 Dudley road for a structure fire, fully involved, with exposures. Upon arrival Company 8 and 13 discovered two garage structures fully involved, about 150 feet from a residence. Fire was extinguished and overhaul was completed, all units cleared the scene around 4:30AM. Units responding: W8, W8-2, W8-3, R8, Engine 13, Rescue 13, Tanker 13, RS 2, Medic 8-6, Medic 1-3. July 23, 2009 Around noon Company 8 and Squad 8 were dispatched to Stewartsville Road in the 4000 block for an MVC with one child needing to be checked out. Crews arrived on scene to find a two vehicle rear end collision with moderate damage and fluids leaking. Wagon 8-3 and Utility 8 handled the hazards and assisted EMS. Crews cleared after assisting State Police. Units responding: Wagon 8-3, Utility 8, and Medic 14-8. Busy Morning for Company 8
Sunday, July 19, 2009 - Around 6:00AM, Company 1 First Due, Company 8 Second Due, and Company 5 RIT, for a strong smell of smoke in the Bedford Police Department. First arriving units found a heavy smell of smoke in the building and began an extensive investigation. Wagon 8's crew assisted Company 1 with investigation. Wagon 8-3 was placed on standby in Company 8's Station 1. Wagon 8 and Wagon 8-3 were returned to service after no fire was found. Shortly after returning to Bedford, Company 8 was alerted to Stony Fork Road for a log skidder on fire. Company 8 arrived to find a log skidder heavily involved and made a quick knockdown on fire. All units returned back in service around 10:00AM. Units out were: Wagon 8, Wagon 8-3, Brush 8-3, Brush 8-2.
Multiple First Due Runs for Moneta
July 17, 2009 At approximately 11:45 AM Company 8 and Squad 8 were dispatched to Moneta Road at Stony Fork Road for an MVC. Wagon 8 arrived to find a tractor trailer that had rear ended a car with heavy damage and one injury. While on scene of the first accident, Companies 8 and 10, Squad 8, and Squad 7 were dispatched to Stone Mountain Road for a vehicle overturned with injury. Rescue 8 arrived on scene to find serious injury and EMS requesting Lifeguard 10. Wagon 8-3 and Wagon 8 established an LZ without incident. After returning to the station Company 8 was alerted to Moneta Road at the Post Office for a vehicle fire. Wagon 8 arrived to find Sheriff's Office on scene who had already extinguished the fire. Units returned to service around 15:30. Units out were W8, W8-3, R8, E10, M14-8, M8-4, RS 2, Lifeguard 10. MVA on Moneta Road with Entrapment
July 15, 2009 Around 17:30 Company 8, Squad 8, Squad 7, and RS 2 were dispatched for a Motor Vehicle Accident on Moneta Road with two vehicles with entrapment. Company 8, with the assistance of Company 1 extricated one patient, who was transported by Med Flight 3 to RMH. Two others were transported by medic units. Units responding were: R8, W8-2, B8-2, B8-3, C8, W1, Sq 8, Sq 1, Sq 4, Med Flight 3. Crews Respond to Promised Land MVA
July 12, 2009 - At approximately 21:00 Company 8, Squad 8, Squad 7, and RS 2 were dispatched to Moneta Road in the area of Promised Land Road for an MVA with entrapment. 849 was first to arrive to find one vehicle in the field off of Promised Land Road with one patient unresponsive and trapped. Upon the arrival of Rescue 8 extrication was completed and per EMS on scene Lifeguard 10 was requested. An LZ was established by Brush 82 in the area of the accident and the patient transported by Lifeguard 10 to RMH. Units responding were: R8, W8-2, W8-3, B8-2, M8-6, M8-5, EMS 8-1, RS-2, BCSO, VASP.

July 10, 2009 - Moneta Fire was represented in the Buena Vista Fireman's Carnival by Rescue 8.

Trailer Fire in Waterfront Campground
May 09, 2009 Co. 8 1st (due), Co.11 2nd (due) received call for a fire in the campground off Yacht Club Rd. Smith Mt. Fire Boat 11-8 arrived to find fully involved trailer and went into attack mode with deck gun off the boat. Bedford Communication upgraded this to a full response working structure fire. This added Co-10 (Saunders) 3rd due and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT. Command 8 arrived and set up command and only needing Attack 8 w/5 and W-8 w/ 6 and everyone else to walk in due to the size of the road into the campground. W-82 crew walked in with Co.10 and Co.1 all crews worked together for about 1.5 on overhaul. Units working W-8, W-82, A-8, B-83,R-1, Mp-10, FB-11-6, FB-11-8, C-10 and C-8
Lake House Fire
Friday March 20, 2009 Co. 8 1st due, Co.10 (Saunders) 2nd due, Co. 11 (SMLFR) 2nd due by water and Co.1 (Bedford) RIT was dispatched to Clearwater Dr. for a structure fire. First arriving units found a large home fully involved, a defensive attack as mounted using hand line and ladder 1's aerial device. Units on scene C8, W8, W83, T8, R8, E10, T10, MP 10, L1, SML Fireboats.
