Chief 8 arrived and established Radford Church Command. Co.10 (Saunders) was also dispatched for manpower and brush trucks. Command called 1402 (VDOF) to advise him that we needed the VDOF Dozer. The Dozer and Brush units worked for about 3.5 hrs. and returned to service. Thanks for the help of Co.10 and VDOF Dozer

Bedford County came together as one

Feb. 9, 2008 - It all started Saturday with a smoke call in Montvale (Company 9).  Chief 9 arrived off Camp Jaycee Road in the National Forest; to find a large fire on the mountain.  At that time, Chief 9 called in all the counties resources from different fire companies. Moneta with many others was called to bring manpower and brush trucks. Brush 8, Command 8, Utility 8 was fully staffed and arrived at the command post for the assignment to the fire line on the mountain. After many hours five of Co8 members returned to quarters.  On Sunday morning Company 8 responded back to the fire with a Wagon Crew for structural protection.  Wagon 82 with six was placed in the south/east area of the fire line to start emergency evacuation of the homes that were in danger. Many homes were at risk but luckily none were damaged. After Wagon 8 finished its assignment, we were placed at the command post. Task Force Leader Wade was on patrol to find a small fire on US 460 that was rapidly growing from the wind. Wagon 82 was called to respond to help with structural protection but was placed in attack mode of the brush fire. During all of this, there were many and I mean MANY fire calls all across Bedford County.  One of these calls was in Co7 (Huddleston) area and became the second biggest fire of the weekend. The county came together and did what they were trained to do; protect life and property.
